Community Impact

We've been strengthening our communities since 1953.

We actively support non-profits in the Arts, Education, Health/Human Services, and Community Development.  In addition, our employees participate in activities that benefit the Credit Union movement.

Below are some of the ways we impacted our local communities last year!


Local Arts

  • Served as the Season Benefactor for the Cortland Repertory Theatre.  An employee sits on their Board of Directors.

  • Served as a “Partner in Flight” for the Hangar Theatre. An employee serves on their Board of Directors.

  • Served as a sponsor for the Kitchen Theatre Company’s Community Engagement Initiative.

  • Sponsored Ithaca Ballet as a Principal Sponsor.  An employee serves on their Board of Directors.

  • Sponsored the Downtown Ithaca Summer Concert Series at the Title Sponsor. 

  • Sponsored the Cortland Main Street Music Series as the Title Sponsor.

  • Sponsored and held a table at the Ithaca Artist Market hosted by the Community Arts Patnership. 



  • Employees participated in a crossword competition and Karaoke event to benefit Tompkins Learning Partners.  An employee serves on their Board of Directors.

  • Participated in the Finanical Literacy Program. 

  • Employees participated in the IPEI Spelling Bee. 

  • Provided sponosrship at Ithaca Community Childcare Center's Silent Auction and Things on Wheels events.

  • Continued our corporate membership in the Sciencenter, enabling employees and their families to visit the Sciencenter for free.  As part of this membership, CFCU sponsored a “CFCU Day” where members and their families could also take advantage of free admission to this family-friendly, hands-on museum. 

  • Sponsored “Fossil ID Day” at the Paleontological Research Institute.

  • Provided a donation towards Ithaca Youth Bureau's College Discovery Program. 
  • Sponsored Cortland Free Library's Summer Reading Program.

  • Provided a donation towards the Coddington Road Community Center's Annual Fall Festival. 
  • CFCU also provided support to the Child Development Council, Southworth Library Association, and the Trumansburg After School Program.

Health/Human Services

Health/Human Services:

  • Showed our commitment to the furrier members of the community by holding a donation drive for the SPCA of Tompkins and the Cortland Community SPCA.  In addition, the Credit Union was the presenting sponsor of the Tompkins SPCA March for the Animals.  A CFCU employee is a dedicated volunteer at the Tompkins SPCA and devotes several hours a week to walking dogs at their shelter.

  • Ten CFCU employees raised money and participated in the Polar Bear Plunge.  These brave employees jumped into a lake in early March to raise money for the Special Olympics.

  • Served as a United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC) Pacesetter for their 2019 campaign. Employees pledged approximately over $18,600 to the campaign and donated 5,500 items to their Day of Caring Campaign. The Credit Union was a Cornerstone Partner of UWTC to assist with their operational expenses so all campaign-generated revenue could be distributed to United Way agencies. In other support for the UWTC, employees participated in their Day of Service and the CFCU President and CEO sits on the UWTC Board of Directors.

  • Employees attended and CFCU sponsored the Annual Celebration dinner held by the United Way of Cortland County. Many employees attended the UWCC kick-off breakfast and the Credit Union collected donations for the UWCC Day of Caring. CFCU also provided a general donation. 

  • Supported Family and Children’s Services Open Door Project as a lead sponsor and sponsored a team at the "Peace of Mind" event. 

  • Raised over $3,300 for March of Dimes through basket raffle sales, candy sales, and teller jar donations. 

  • Served as a major sponsor for the Habitat for Humanity Tompkins and Cortland Counties. Participated in the annual Women's Build and Cookie Walk, baking 33 dozen cookies. An employee sits on their Board of Directors.

  • Held a collection drive for the Backpacks program sponsored by the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. In this program, children who may not otherwise have access to meals are given a backpack full of food before the weekend. CFCU provided 517 items! 

  • Raised approximately $1,062 through employee-sponsored initiatives for Relay for Life in Tompkins County. An employee team participated in the event.  The Credit Union provided a sponsorship at the event.

  • Sponsored events benefiting the YMCA of Tompkins County.  An employee sits on their Board of Directors.

  • Supported Alex’s Lemonade Stand by selling lemonade at Community Shred Day events.

  • Sponsored and attended the YWCA of Cortland “Pig-N-Par” Golf Tournament.  

  • Served as a sponsor and attended the Community and Coaches vs. Cancer event.

  • Sponsored the Cayuga Medical Center Gala, the Cortland Regional Medical Center H.E.R.O Campaign and Harvest of Gold event.

  • Participated in the Credit Unions for Kids’ Miracle Jeans Day to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.

  • Collected coats and other winter-weather items to donate to Catholic Charities.

  • Held toy drives to support Cops, Kids, and Toys and Toys for Tots.

  • Supported Loaves and Fishes through a general donation. 

  • Sponsored the Racker v. Big Red event held by the Racker Centers.

  • Sponsored and attended the Taste of the Nation event. 

  • Sponsored 26 students in the Cornell Elves holiday program. 
  • Sponsored “An Evening to Remember Gala” to benefit Alzheimer’s Association of CNY. Particiapted and sponsored a team at the "Walk to Remember".

  • Gold Plate Sponsor at Foodnet's Mac 'n Cheese Bowl. 

  • Provided funding towards the Friends of Ithaca Youth bureau's Cass Park Arena Closure Campaign. 
  • Sponsored and participated in the Out of the Darkness Walk.

  • Provided sponosrship at the Friendship Donations Network's Fall Feast. 
  • Sponsored and participated in Cancer Resource Center Walk.  Sponsored their “Day of Renewal” retreats.

  • Participated and raised funds for the Tough Turtle, funding presented to the Ithaca Children's Garden. 
  • Presenting sponsor at the Just Be Cause party. 

  • Donated professional clothing to the Women’s Opportunity Center. Participated in the Common's Challenge hosted by the Women's Opportunity Center. 

  • Provided donations to Access to Independence, Challenge Workforce Solutions, The Advocacy Center, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services, St. Jude's Children's Hospital

Community Development

Community Development:

  • Attended the Tompkins County Rotary meetings and events.

  • Participated in Tompkins and Cortland Chamber of Commerce events such as their annual showcases, dinners, golf tournaments, and monthly networking events.

  • Participated in the Tompkins Chamber of Commerce Economic Summit, CEO Roundtable, and Governmental Affairs Committee.

  • Held two Community Shred Days where people could drop off items to be shredded and recycle old electronic items such as computers and televisions.

  • Participated in the Tompkins Cortland Home Builders and Remodelers Association Home and Garden Show.

  • Supported local farmers by joining a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) for employees.

  • Attended meetings and special events to support numerous non-profits in the community, including Human Services Coalition, United Way of Tompkins County, United Way of Cortland County, Family and Children’s Services, Finger Lakes Independence Center, Women’s Opportunity Center, Family Reading Partnership, Advocacy Center, Better Housing for Tompkins County, Tompkins Visitors Center, Franziska Racker Centers, and the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.

  • Employees participated in Leadership Tompkins and Leadership Cortland.

  • Participated in the Cortland County Dairy Parade and Ithaca Festival Parade.
